Before you can begin using GS1 identification keys and barcodes, you need to license a GS1 company prefix. This globally unique number allows you to start using GS1 identification standards and create GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers) for products and GLNs (Global Location Numbers) for your locations.
GS1 Company Prefixes come in various capacities that allow you to create codes for as few as 10 and as many as 100,000 items. Their pricing schedule is based on the number of unique items that you need to identify.
To learn more about GS1 Company Prefixes, visit gs1.org/company-prefix. For companies whose headquarters are located in the United States, you will go through GS1 US. Get a GS1 company prefix from GS1 US
If you already have a GS1 Company Prefix or are not sure if you do, you can do search gepir.org to view your company's prefixes.
Within FoodLogiQ Connect, you can enter your GS1 Company Prefix on your “Business Information” page. You can find this page within the Settings dropdown menu in the top righthand side (click the cog wheel icon), then select “Admin”. Click the "+" next to My GS1 Prefixes, enter, then click save.
Adding your GS1 Prefix to your Business Information page will allow you to assign GTINs and GLNs using features in FoodLogiQ Connect. My GS1 Prefixes is not a required field in FoodLogiQ. Suppliers can enter their GTINs and GLNs into FoodLogiQ Connect without completing this field.
Many companies have multiple GS1 Company Prefixes. Please consult your internal teams who manage GS1 Standards before adding any prefixes to FoodLogiQ Connect.
